Freelance Designer (SA)

Initial contract until December 2025.

9.25 days per month (around 2.5 days per week).

About the role

 

As a Freelance Designer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering creative design concepts that align with a brand's messaging and goals across various channels, including web content (static and Rich media) and social media. You will need to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders, stay up-to-date with design trends and best practices, and manage and mentor the design team.

 

You will have a good eye for beautiful design and good knowledge of great typography. photography, motion, and generative AI skills are all added bonuses! You must be comfortable taking design projects from brief through to completion, providing new ideas and creativity and producing designs to fit the client’s brief and exacting standards.

 

This is not a plug-and-play design role. It’s for someone who understands that great storytelling lives in the details. You’re someone who sees the narrative potential in a five-second clip. Who can turn a brief into a story, and a mood board into a motion identity. You’re as comfortable finessing the typography of a social post as you are cutting down a hero film into a dozen platform-native assets. And you thrive in the space where editorial clarity meets brand emotion. 

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Design with intention. Create best-in-class motion and graphic design assets-from animated explainers and infographics to platform-optimized video edits and stylized product visuals.
  • Reimagine and repurpose. Cut down, reframe, and remix existing footage and assets into new, innovative content that brings freshness and surprise to every touchpoint.
  • Bring editorial storytelling to life. Work closely with our copy and strategy team to visually interpret narratives in a way that feels premium, clear, and deeply human.
  • Build for agility without compromising craft. Respond to a fast-moving content calendar with speed, while maintaining an exceptional level of polish and attention to detail.
  • Own the craft. You’ll be responsible for the technical finesse and creative consistency of the work you touch-from transitions and pacing to color, type, and sound design.
  • Innovate within the brand system. Bring new energy to our visual identity by finding creative ways to stretch the guidelines-evolving our look and feel while staying true to our core values.
  • Collaborate deeply. Partner with art directors, writers, strategists, and marketers to co-create work that’s visually rich and strategically sound.

 

About you

  • An expert executor with a conceptual edge. You can run with a brief, but you also bring ideas to the table. You think like an editor, a director, and a designer all in one.
  • 5+ years of experience in motion design and/or graphic design, ideally within a brand or content-rich environment (agency, editorial, beauty, lifestyle, or DTC preferred).
  • A killer portfolio that shows a refined aesthetic, a love for storytelling, and strong command of pacing, layout, color, and type across both motion and static formats.
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Bonus points for Figma, Cinema4D, or Ai tools (Adobe firelfly).
  • Deep knowledge of digital platforms, and how to design natively for each
  • A proven ability to balance quality with speed-you’re quick without cutting corners.
