The Role   

The Technical Support Coach for the JVS Cybersecurity Advancement Program will play an important role in facilitating the experience of learners enrolled in the SANS Institute 401 Security Essentials course. The primary responsibility will be to provide subject matter expertise and coaching to learners as they navigate through the coursework, labs, and exercises. 

Scope  

Cybersecurity Learning Support: 

  • Provide timely and effective support to learners encountering issues with course materials, labs, exercises, or technical tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve course challenges faced by students, including but not limited to network configurations, virtualization environments, and software installations.
  • Assist students in understanding complex technical concepts covered in the course curriculum. 

Coaching and Accountability: 

  • Conduct check-ins with students to assess their progress, address any concerns, offer encouragement and provide expert cybersecurity knowledge and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment by actively engaging with learners and facilitating peer-to-peer learning opportunities. 
  • Monitor online discussion forums and chat channels to respond to learners' inquiries in a timely manner. 

Feedback: 

  • Document common training issues and their resolutions to create a knowledge base for future reference. 
  • Collect feedback from learners and share with the Cybersecurity program team to enhance the learner’s chances for success and improve program outcomes. 

Qualifications  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed SANS Institute SEC 401: Security Essentials course. 
  • Certified in GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies.(GSEC) 
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in cybersecurity roles and demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity concepts. 
  • Strong technical proficiency in networking, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and cybersecurity tools and technologies. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to learners with varying levels of expertise.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Prior experience providing technical support or coaching in an educational or professional setting. 
  • A passion for teaching, learning, and helping others succeed in their cybersecurity careers. 

Limited Term Employment Information 

  • Mid-June to late-September – 14-16 weeks 
Estimated Hours:   
  • Zoom classroom instruction: 28 total hours, two hours per week, one day a week, 3-5pm day to be determined by availability. 
  • Zoom Office Coaching: 15-28 total hours, 1-2 hours per week, random times, evenings possible. 
  • Advance Work: 10-12 total hours; planning and class agenda design. 
  • Administration and meetings: 16 total hours; up to 1 hour per week.   
  • Compensation: $100-125 hourly rate based on experience
