Job description

We’re on a mission to help every family leave their legacy with a fast, easy, and secure way to create, manage, and distribute their estate plan online. Since 2017, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of families plan for their future with a streamlined and intuitive approach that makes estate planning simple, affordable, and accessible. We’re backed by leading names in venture capital including Jackson Square Ventures, Link Ventures, Revolution’s Rise of the Rest, Halogen Ventures, and more.

As part of the Legal team at Trust & Will, you will be helping millions of families create and maintain their complete Estate Plans across the country. This role is critical for someone who is passionate about technology, estate planning, privacy, and the law. You will report to the Assistant General Counsel while collaborating closely with our privacy expert.

You will be instrumental in transforming how estate planning is done for millions of Americans, many of whom would not have access to estate planning otherwise. We're looking for someone who sees the flaws in the current legal system and wants to bring transformative access to as many people as possible.

You're proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable collaborating cross-functionally to help ensure that innovative products meet legal standards. Your ability to balance practical solutions with regulatory requirements allows you to thrive in dynamic environments where you can directly impact product success.

About The Role

With support from the Legal team, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with product teams to support innovation, implementation, and ongoing compliance for our product offerings.
  • Provide practical legal guidance during product ideation, helping identify and navigate potential compliance issues.
  • Support new product feature implementation by ensuring internal teams have the necessary legal context and resources to successfully launch and maintain products.
  • Assist in periodic compliance reviews of existing products, ensuring ongoing adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and occasionally participate in external industry discussions on estate planning topics via webinars, media interviews, legislative hearings, or conferences.
  • Support the preparation of communications on product-related legal topics, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Support the Legal team with regulatory and legislative monitoring and reporting.
  • Support the Legal team with commercial agreements and contract negotiations.
  • Provide support to Legal team operations, including maintaining contract management and workflow tools as well as helping to implement or improve internal processes.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • 3+ years of experience in estate planning, product counseling, or related legal experience, ideally in technology, or financial services.
  • Experience collaborating with product or cross-functional teams to support the development and maintenance of products.
  • Solid understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and compliance considerations impacting estate planning and related fields.
  • Strong communication skills, able to clearly convey legal concepts and collaborate effectively with internal teams.
  • Analytical thinker, capable of identifying legal risks and providing practical, actionable guidance.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
