Overview Of The Role

The UK Accreditation Scheme for museums and galleries is owned by Arts Council England and managed throughout the UK via a formal partnership agreement with Museums Galleries Scotland, Northern Ireland Museums Council and the Welsh Government. The Committee is made up of sector practitioners and related roles with UK representation and representation from a range of different types and scales of museums.

As Chair of the Accreditation Committee, you will play an important role in helping to raise standards in museums so that public trust is retained in them as long-term custodians of our shared heritage. You will lead the Committee at an interesting time as we start a user-focussed redesign of Accreditation, while keeping the scheme open to participants throughout. We want to ensure it is meeting the needs of those running museums, helping them to be accountable and to be planning for a successful and sustainable future.

We are looking for a museum leader who is passionate about museums and public collections and their role and potential and is knowledgeable about the museum and heritage sector throughout the UK.
