Position Overview

ISG is seeking a senior consulting professional with broad higher education or academic medical center ERP or operational experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise

Responsibilities

The consultant is expected to be well versed in “best practice” operations and processes in the respective area of expertise (e.g., human resources and payroll). The consultant is expected to be sufficiently versed in the respective area of expertise to analyze current state operations, design future state operations either independent of or in concert with implementation of enterprise applications and provide oversight in connection with implementation of the future state design.
 
Selection & Evaluation: 
  • Analyze current state operations
  • Document business requirements and processes
  • Assist with preparation of request for proposal document
  • Prepare vendor demonstration scripts
  • Facilitate vendor evaluation
  • Develop future state operating model
  • Develop implementation road map
  • Oversee project planning and delivery from an enterprise perspective
  • Review or establish project management protocols (e.g., documentation) and, as appropriate to the project, review or execute the project consistent with those protocols
  • Manage relationships with a wide range of groups
Implementation:
  • Review and recommend approval of or, as appropriate to the project, prepare deliverables 
  • Through oversight and reporting, guide client in holding the SI accountable for completing the project on time, within scope and within budget, consistent with quality standards 
  • Manage the project change request process and facilitate approval of change requests, including those submitted by the SI
  • Monitor implementation project risks, opportunities and issues 
  • Guide mitigation of risks, realization of opportunities, and resolution of issues and conflicts Report project progress, budget and status to appropriate levels (e.g., Executive Sponsor, Executive Council, Steering Committee) and recommend corrective action when necessary 
  • Review the detailed project plan and supporting tracking schedules on an ongoing basis, and document issues and concerns with project progress. Data entry, reconciliation, and report generation of the project plan and associated tracking schedules are typically client and/or SI responsibilities
  • Provide independent project management oversight  
  • In connection with implementation, the consultant is responsible for providing guidance and/or oversight
  • The consultant will work with the client lead and, if a Systems Integration partner (SI) is involved, the SI lead
  • The consultant will provide insight and guidance to the project team and assess and report progress to the project management office
Software Evaluation:
  • Analyze current business processes, establish requirements supporting “best practice” processes, develop procurement documentation (RFP, RFQ, etc.)
  • Facilitate evaluation of enterprise software options, guide the client in negotiating software and implementation vendor contracts, and develop an implementation road map
Operational Review:
  • Analyze current state operations and services, facilitate the development of a future state; and develop an implementation road map to achieve the future state. Future state operations may include shared services
Required Skillsets 
  • This is a remote role with extensive travel on-site to work with clients (4 days per week but negotiable)
  • 7-15 years recent experience with managing transformation projects in a complex university or academic medical center environment
  • Multi-module experience with enterprise application implementations (Ellucian, Oracle, SAP, Workday) and/or experience with enterprise transformation or merger/integration projects
  • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy-to-understand business terms to all levels of management including senior leaders
  • Strong organizational and task management skills
  • Strong analytical skills ideally supported by demonstrated experience applying quantitative analytics in the development of recommendations and in problem solving
  • Strong facilitation skills ideally with groups involving groups comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective member of a professional team
  • Ability to make decisions at the project team level and properly escalate those decisions that cannot be resolved on a timely basis
  • Complete transformation/systems implementation project life cycle experience
Education
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in a technical or scientific field 
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree(s) desirable
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable
  • Prior professional career focused on higher education desirable
  • Research university and/or academic medical center experience desirable
