ABOUT THE ROLE
At New Story, we pioneer solutions to end the global housing crisis by empowering families to become land and homeowners in thriving communities.
We recently launched our first impact investment fund to finance land development for low-income families in Latin America. Our investment strategy enables low-income families in emerging markets to purchase property for the first time. This is a first-of-its kind approach which we hope can unlock homeownership worldwide.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and detailed-oriented self-starter who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to build and manage day-to-day operations for our new fund. This is a critical hire who will support both the investment and finance teams, and will be a key part of the organization as we continue to grow.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Fund Accounting and Administration:
Manage fund operations, including capital calls, distributions, waterfall calculations and investor reporting
Oversee third-party fund administrators and other external fund service providers; ensure effective working relationships and excellent work product
Maintain complete and accurate schedules and ledgers of all investment transactions
Monitor investment cash flows and analyze against budgets; ensure appropriate cash balances and availability of funds for scheduled expenses, deployments, and distributions
Manage and monitor fund balance sheets against budgets
Complete reconciliations of investment related accounts
Manage and monitor currency hedging transactions, positions, and settlement schedules
Oversee and verify project-level accounting work of trustees and third-party accountants; consolidate into core ledger
Coordinate with the Global Controller to ensure complete integration with the accounting ERP and org-wide framework; identify and assist in system and process enhancement initiatives
Financial Analysis and Reporting:
Responsible for all NAV calculations, policy and procedural documentation, and reporting
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for various stakeholders, as well as ad-hoc reports and presentations
Monitor investment activity and performance, including reviewing reports from the investment team and participating in investor calls
Conduct financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support decision-making and identify potential risks and opportunities
Assist with organization wide budgeting and forecasting; including ad-hoc projects
Compliance and Risk Management:
Draft policies, memos, and procedures in adherence to regulations and industry best practices
Implement, monitor, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and ensure complete compliance with regulations and internal policies
Maintain technical knowledge of all relevant new accounting developments; support the operational execution and implementation of new accounting standards
Act as the primary liaison with external auditors
Assist in preparing tax and regulatory filings as needed
WHO YOU ARE
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience with demonstrated results
2-4 years relevant experience in financial analysis, accounting, or fund administration, preferably in a private equity, venture capital, or real estate investment environment
Broad and comprehensive fund accounting knowledge and experience in accounting software
Strong financial analytical skills and able to produce flawless, accurate, and timely reports with attention to detail
Well-versed in Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting
Self-starter, with natural curiosity and an initiative to learn and take on tasks
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Curious and feel comfortable in different international contexts
Demonstrated interest in international development and commitment to social change through finance and innovation
Spanish proficiency a plus

Paid Parental Leave. Primary caregivers are given 12 weeks paid time off. Secondary caregivers are given 6 weeks paid time off.
Adoption Reimbursement. For families who are willing to adopt, thank you! New Story will reimburse eligible team members up to $10,000 for adoption related expenses.
401k Investment Plan. New Story offers 401k investment plan so you can save money for the long-term.
Intentional Gatherings. As a remote team, we recognize how valuable and rejuvenating in-person time can be. Whether it’s an all-company Team Summit, Fun Camp for fundraisers, or spontaneous department gatherings, we set aside budget to gather in-person to have fun, reflect, and plan together.

Trips to the Field. It’s amazing to meet the families we help and see the homes up close and personal. You'll get to visit the work first hand in either Mexico or El Salvador. Prioritization will vary by role.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
This is an individual contributor role that reports to the VP of Strategic Initiatives .
LOCATION & COMPENSATION
This will be a remote role based in the US. We are prioritizing candidates in Pacific to Central time zones, with a preference for candidates based in Los Angeles or Austin.
Our offer will be commensurate with experience and location. Our general range for this role is $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD.
