Job Summary

CommentSold, America’s #1 live selling SaaS platform is looking for a Tax Specialist to join the team. CommentSold currently has over 50 people based out of India and you will be joining this growth-driven company with ambitious financial goals. Our Finance team helps us stay on track and exceed those. Our team loves the work we do in helping our customers be successful, and this is your chance to contribute. As our Tax specialist, you will focus on U.S. sales tax compliance across multiple entities and international VAT & GST, ensuring accurate reporting and timely filings. Additionally, you will oversee annual report filings in most states, maintain accurate ledgers for estimated income and franchise tax payments, and assist in resolving tax-related notices. As a Tax Specialist, you will also collaborate with the Controller and work closely with our external tax firm on complex and strategic matters to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. You will assist in preparing US federal and state tax returns, international VAT and GST returns, conducting tax research, and ensuring overall tax compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build a career in US taxation, gaining hands-on experience in tax compliance and reporting.

This role is a fully remote position based in India. Preferably this person is based out of Mumbai or Bangalore.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Tax, VAT and GST Compliance:

  • Monitor and reconcile reporting between internal systems and Avalara
  • Review and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple technology entities across various states and jurisdictions.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and businesses
  • Support tax calculations, reconciliations, and data analysis for compliance with US tax regulations.
  • Research and apply sales tax regulations to ensure compliance in all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Monitor nexus thresholds and recommend actions when new obligations arise.

Annual Reports & Franchise Tax Filings:

  • Coordinate and file annual reports and other state-specific compliance requirements.
  • Track and manage deadlines for multiple entities to ensure timely submissions.

Income & Franchise Tax Ledger Maintenance:

  • Maintain accurate ledgers for estimated tax payments and balances associated with income and franchise tax accounts.
  • Perform reconciliations to ensure all records are accurate and up to date.

Tax Notice Resolution:

  • Address and resolve notices received from federal, state, and local tax agencies.
  • Analyze and provide documentation to support issue resolution.

Collaboration with External Tax Firm:

  • Work closely with our external tax firm on complex or strategic tax matters.
  • Provide supporting documentation and information to facilitate accurate filings and strategic planning.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation for audit readiness.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline tax-related processes and improve efficiency.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in US tax preparation, tax compliance, or accounting (focus on US sales taxes, VAT and GST a plus)
  • Basic understanding of US federal and state tax laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance and reporting is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting or tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Avalara, or similar tools).
  • Ability to research and interpret tax regulations effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to flex at least 4 working hours to overlap with North American time zones; Requirement to work until 3:30pm EST (US).
