Job description

Overview:

Are you a future engineer with a passion for transportation structures? Dillon’s structural group is looking for a Structural (Bridge) Engineering Student (12 or 16 month internship) to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

 

At Dillon, we operate as one team nationally; however, this position is available at Dillon’s Calgary, Alberta office.

Responsibilities:

What your day will look like:

 

Technical Work:

  • Assistance to project managers, and design teams within structural transportation and multi-disciplinary projects teams 
  • Assistance in the preparation of structural designs including: 
    • bridges, culverts and facilities foundations; 
    • engineering studies; 
    • technical document support for contract (tender) specifications, design reports and proposals, and; 
    • design calculations for structural elements. 
  • Completion of design activities within project timelines/schedules 
  • Assistance with site investigations for proposals 
  • Assistance with contract administration tasks including construction observation, shop drawing review, contractor submittal review, progress payment preparation, and responding to requests for information 
  • Completion of the review of safe work practices and performing risk assessments for employee tasks 
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members 
  • Contribution to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations

Qualifications:

What you will need to succeed:

  • Civil Engineering Undergraduate Student at the University of Calgary; or,
  • Civil Engineering Master of Engineering Student at the University of Calgary
Experience:
  • Committed to a culture of quality including keen attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated abilities to work in multidisciplinary team and independently;
  • Experience on active construction sites and knowledge of standard health and safety practices and legislation will be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of design guidelines and standards, legislation and policies will be considered an asset;
  • Passionate about personal and professional growth, working collaboratively to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations, and developing innovative solutions;
  • Capable of working independently and ability to proactively identify and address concerns that may arise when completing fieldwork.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to use of a vehicle for work purposes including an automobile insurance policy.
