The Department of Radiology Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs is the physician leader responsible for overseeing departmental mentoring, the faculty promotion process, faculty and staff wellbeing programs, and faculty professional development in collaboration with the Chair of Radiology. The Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs will oversee the progress of the mentoring committee, promotions committee, peer supporter program, and faculty wellbeing workgroup consisting of several faculty, staff, and practitioner leaders to advance the inclusive and supportive culture of the department. It is highly important that the Vice Chair lead with empathy and through a lens of emotional intelligence as well as diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to advance a mission of care and workplace wellbeing within the department while inculcating MCW’s values and behaviors.
Reporting directly to the Chair of Radiology, the Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs will provide oversight and strategic direction to the department’s mission of faculty and staff development and wellbeing. The Vice Chair will play a critical role in proactively developing and optimizing our processes for faculty mentoring and professional development, promotion and tenure, talent retention, and departmental wellbeing. The Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs will act as an advocate and facilitator for our faculty as they navigate their careers and build their futures within our institution.
The Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs will work collaboratively with the Program Manager who serves as the day to day operational and administrative person in aiding in executing the primary functions and responsibilities of the role as well as developing and executing strategic impact goals.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities
- Oversee and support departmental efforts in mentoring, promotions, wellbeing/workplace burnout management, and faculty professional development and insure that MCW principles of diversity, equity and inclusion are incorporated into these initiatives.
- Refine and maintain departmental Mentoring and Development and Wellbeing Mission Statements.
- Refine and maintain departmental Mentoring and Development and Wellbeing Strategic Plans.
- Serve as a key resource for all formal faculty mentoring, development, and wellness activities with a focus on metrics to gauge success in goals for overall workplace wellbeing.
- Work in conjunction with the Vice Chair of Education to develop and maintain a faculty development curriculum that includes topics to enhance the role of faculty as educators.
- Serve as a mentor to division/section chiefs as they develop and mentor their faculty members.
- Serve as co-chair of department Faculty Promotions Committee.
- Serve as co-chair of the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee.
- Serve as co-chair of department Mentoring Committee.
- Serve as a member of the department Faculty Wellbeing Workgroup.
- Serve as a trained empathetic MCW/FH tier 2 Peer Supporter for addressing traumatic patient events and second victim syndrome.
- Participate in local, regional, and/or national societies/organizations that focus on faculty mentoring, development, and wellness.
- Participate in MCW Office of Faculty Affairs formal faculty mentoring, development, and wellness trainings as appropriate.
- Act as a Radiology department liaison with MCW committees, boards, or collaboratives to ensure interdepartmental collaboration for faculty mentoring, development, and wellness activities as needed.
- Attend and communicate updates regarding relevant ongoing/planned/proposed programs/events/activities at faculty meetings.
- Perform other wellness and development related duties on department chair’s request as needed.

Position Requirements:
Must be a board-certified radiologist with a fellowship training within a subspecialty in Radiology.
Must have a track record of mentorship and coaching.
Must at least hold the rank of Associate Professor.
Must have prior leadership experience in academic medicine.
