Job description

Petal Maps is a unique map app that lets you explore the world around you in new ways. Available in over 160 countries and regions, it provides real-time traffic conditions, lane-level guidance, nearby services, various map layers, traffic events, place favorites, and loads more.

We are looking for a freshly graduated natural language processing research engineer for the Petal Maps NLP research and development team. Your responsibility will be to build high accuracy and low latency NLP systems for the Petal Maps app using a combination of rule-based systems, algorithms, classical machine learning models and deep learning models. This includes exploratory data analysis, literature review, design, coding, training, evaluation, debugging and collaborating with the production team as your prototypes are inserted into production code.

You will get a chance to develop yourself in the latest natural language processing, machine and deep learning technologies, and work in an international company in a major multi-team project. You will be joining a highly motivated team in which your efforts directly affect the team’s capability and the development of the maps product itself.

This is not a remote position, you are expected to work from one of Huawei’s R&D offices located in Istanbul, Ankara, or İzmir. Do note that this position requires significant skills and knowledge in programming. People who are beginners or do not know how to code need not apply.

Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and quality of the research outputs
Proactively meet other researchers to propose and design tractable and efficient solutions
Follow latest technologies and algorithms in the literature and apply them to the project
Implement your solutions in a well written and reviewed modular code base
Train, evaluate and debug machine and deep learning models
Analyze and explore training data as well as model outputs
Work closely with Arabic Native Speakers to analyze and evaluate the outputs of the algorithms
Run code reviews and write unit tests

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other related engineering fields.
NLP experience including but not limited to spelling correction, text classification, token classification (NER, PoS etc..), machine translation
Experience with classical machine learning and deep learning as applied to NLP.
Ability to design, train and debug models as opposed to just using existing pipelines.
Experience with scikit-learn, and one of pytorch or tensorflow (excluding keras)
Ability to read research papers and follow the literature
Good python programmer
