Overview

Mark 1 is seeking a strategic and commercially focused Head of Origination to develop and execute offtake agreements in collaboration with a portfolio of emerging climate technology startups. As a co-developer, you will work closely with multiple startups to enhance their origination effort and processes and ensure the commercial success of projects. Your role will be critical in building a project pipeline that aligns with the startups' and market demands.

Mark1 is a developer-as-a-service for first-of-a-kind industrial climate technologies. We work with the most impactful technology companies and, through a structured approach, leverage our expertise and extensive network to plan and co-develop their first commercial-scale projects. By aligning incentives with project milestones, Mark1 creates the right structure to bridge the financing gap and accelerate the energy transition.

Mark1 is a joint initiative of Deep Science Ventures (DSV), the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and its accelerator, Third Derivative (D3). Mark1 is currently incubated at DSV.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Relationship Management
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, investors, and strategic partners, to secure project offtake commitments.
  • Lead negotiations and structuring of long-term offtake agreements across various sectors.
  • Collaborative Origination
    • Work closely with multiple technology companies to augment their origination functions and implement best practice.
    • Align startup capabilities with market opportunities to maximize commercial potential.
    • Foster a culture of shared success among all stakeholders.
  • Market and Financial Analysis
    • Conduct comprehensive market assessments and own customer financial model.
    • Ensure commercial viability and optimal pricing of offtake agreements.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and mitigate risks related to offtake agreements, supply chains, and market dynamics.
  • Project Financing Support
    • Assist startups in securing project financing by establishing robust commercial agreements.
  • Market Intelligence
    • Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in clean energy and industrial processes.
  • Business Model Innovation
    • Develop innovative business models and go-to-market strategies to drive project success and market penetration.
  • Company
    • Promote a culture of bravery, inclusion and support
    • Represent Mark1 at events, workshops, meetings and other industry events

    Requirements

    Essential
    • Proven track record in originating and negotiating large-scale offtake agreements, preferably in energy, industrial manufacturing, or clean technology sectors.
    • Relationships with key individuals at potential offtakers in industries relevant to the net zero transition.
    • Strong understanding of market dynamics, pricing strategies, and risk mitigation in emerging industries.
    • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills, with a passion for daily engagement in these areas.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across diverse industries.
    • Location: Remote, North America
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of time annually. This is to address project needs as they arise, to attend industry events, conferences, etc. and for a twice/year company gathering.
    Preferred
    • Experience collaborating with startups and co-developing projects involving innovative climate technologies.
    • Deep expertise across multiple sectors relevant to the net-zero transition
