Advancing Health Professionals (AHP): a Peace Corps Response program, is seeking a two Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRV) to serve as Nurse Leadership Management Specialist with GAIA Global Health, in Blantyre, Malawi, without the provision of direct medical care to patients or clinical supervision of students. The position requires a bachelor of science degree in nursing, current nursing licensure, a minimum of two years nursing leadership and/or management experience and utilization of data for decision-making, global health and/or HIV/AIDS, infection prevention and control, and implementing programs/tools for promoting supportive work environment and well-being of nurses. A master of science degree in nursing leadership, a master degree in public or global health and experience in quality improvement and HIV service delivery programming are highly desirable.
The PCRV will support GAIA and the PEPFAR Nursing Leadership Initiative (NLI) which aims to elevate the nursing profession within PEPFAR-supported countries to strengthen the healthcare workforce globally and ensure HIV response gains are sustained. The initiative is also aimed at equipping the nursing workforce to lead and respond appropriately to issues of global health security, including HIV/AIDS. The Peace Corps contributes to this effort with nurse leadership volunteer to support counterparts at GAIA which is the implementing partner for the PEPFAR NLI in Malawi.
The PCRV will support in capacity building of nurse leaders to identify, prevent, and manage disease that are newly appearing and reappearing in the population including HIV/AIDS, to contribute to policy decision of health systems to prepare, identify, respond and direct recovery efforts from pandemics, support nursing leadership to use data for decision making, to plan and ensure equitable distribution of nursing workforce aligned with national priorities to ensure long term sustainability of HIV/AIDS services and global security, support to strengthen coordination amongst different players in health sector and work with nursing leadership to identify gaps in nursing services delivery.
Peace Corps Response established its "Advancing Health Professionals" program in 2019. Response Volunteers serving with the AHP program seek to improve health outcomes on a societal level by providing high-level, specialized service in the health sector. AHP projects include health professions educators, health systems strengthening, service delivery improvement, and other non-clinical interventions that enhance the quality of healthcare.
Invitees will be arriving in Malawi together as a group. While the whole group's departure dates could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum of two years of nursing leadership and/or management experience and utilization of data for decision-making.
- Education, training, or experience in global health and/or HIV/AIDS
- Experience in infection prevention and control and implementing programs/tools for promoting supportive work environment and well-being of nurses.
- Intercultural competence
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork
